Proposed New School Campus in Bawburgh
OneSchool Global, a network of educational institutions, has submitted an application to South Norfolk Council for the establishment of a new school campus in Bawburgh, a village located on the outskirts of Norwich. This proposed site is intended to replace the existing school located at Turbine Way in Swaffham.
The new school is expected to serve up to 130 students between the ages of five and 18. These students will come from various regions including Norfolk, Waveney, and Suffolk. The new facility will be constructed near Costessey Park and Ride, making it easily accessible for families in the surrounding areas.
OneSchool Global was established by members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, a movement known for its evangelical approach. The schools within this network primarily cater to families who are part of the church congregation. This connection highlights the religious foundation that underpins the educational philosophy of the institution.
The initial design plans for the new campus include several key features such as a gymnasium, play area, classrooms, a library, a kitchen, and a car park with 60 spaces. These facilities aim to provide a comprehensive learning environment for students.
The chosen site for the new school is Long Lane, which spans nearly eight acres (3.25 hectares). Currently, the land is being used as a pig farm, according to reports from the Local Democracy Reporting Service. This transformation from agricultural use to an educational facility represents a significant shift in the area’s development.
OneSchool Global’s current campus in Swaffham, which serves 110 students, includes two adapted portacabins. The school has indicated that this facility is nearing the end of its useful life, necessitating the need for a new and more sustainable location.
The application also outlines the school’s continued commitment to using a dedicated minibus service for student transportation. This arrangement ensures that all students can safely and efficiently travel to and from the school.
Sarah Bennett, a regional principal at OneSchool Global UK, emphasized the potential benefits of the new campus. She stated that if approved, the new school would offer outstanding professional opportunities for educators within the OneSchool Global network. Additionally, it would support high-quality local jobs during the construction and development phases.
