A Winter Wonderland in the Middle of Summer
Longing for the days when temperatures were below 90 degrees, and the San Antonio humidity didn’t invite mosquitoes for a meal? La Cantera Resort & Spa is beating the heat with a taste of Christmas in July, kicking off with a winter-themed pool party earlier in the week. Here’s what else they have in store for the upcoming season. For these events, you don’t need to be a hotel guest to attend.
Jingle Bell Roll: A Roller Skating Rink in the Pool
For the first time, La Cantera Resort’s Topaz infinity pool will be topped with a roller skating rink. “The main reason we decided to go with a roller rink is because, when you think about roller skating, it’s a pastime tradition, really. And it’s nostalgia,” Jena Marquez Mardell, La Cantera Resort director of public relations and marketing, said. As the holiday season can still get pretty warm in San Antonio, Mardell said that’s how the roller rink sets itself apart from places that offer ice skating.
The Jingle Bell Roll will launch November 21 alongside the annual tree lighting. Visitors can expect themed skate nights (like a family-friendly pajama skate) and adults-only skate nights, as well as photo opportunities with Santa Claus. Mardell told that 10 poolside cabanas will turn into winter coves, featuring mini fire pits, “elevates s’mores” and a “beautiful view of the Hill Country hills.” The resort encourages making a reservation for the “holiday coves.”
Chef Gonzo Jimenez Brings the King Ranch to Life
La Cantera welcomes chef Gonzo Jimenez of ‘Bake Squad’ fame. All the way from Netflix’s Bake Squad, chef Gonzo Jimenez will be bringing the King Ranch stables to life – in chocolate form. With executive pastry chef Erica Casares, chef Gonzo will model the iconic South Texas ranch that lends the resort its aesthetic and mingle with guests for photo ops.
Throughout the first week of December, chef Gonzo will make appearances at some of the resort’s restaurants, such as providing dessert at Signature, a Latin-inspired holiday cooking demonstration at Primero Cantina, and a chocolate-infused four-course dinner at the SweetFire Kitchen. In the evenings, Mardell told locals can come by to watch him craft the stables and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and a fireplace.
