Dhaka, June 21 — BTS leader RM, also known as Kim Namjoon, recently opened up about his deep connection with art and the occasional jealousy he feels when listening to exceptional music by other artists. In a candid conversation shared on Samsung Newsroom’s YouTube channel, RM said he feels at peace with visual art because he doesn’t feel competitive toward it-unlike music, where he sometimes struggles to stay objective.
Recalling a visit to the Art Institute of Chicago during a tour, RM said he was captivated by works from Monet and Van Gogh, which brought him comfort. “My peace comes from knowing I’m not good at drawing,” he joked. But with music, it’s different: “Sometimes when I listen to great musicians’ albums, I get really jealous,” he confessed.

The Indigo rapper described himself as someone still learning and growing, emphasizing that his love for art grew organically over time. Though he’s often praised as a curator, RM said he’s simply a passionate fan. “I didn’t major in art history. I just like it.”
RM also addressed the perception of political messaging in his Instagram posts, saying his art shares are purely personal and have no political or commercial ties. “If I like it, I share it,” he said, noting that fans have helped spotlight many underrated artists. RM concluded by expressing his dream of creating a space in Seoul that connects cultures and generations through art.
