Rihanna’s connection with her dad
As reported by Daily Mail, the 37-year-old artist behind “Umbrella” has openly discussed how her father’s battles with crack cocaine and alcohol addiction significantly impacted her upbringing.
She has mentioned that his drug addiction resulted in aggressive arguments between her parents, with some escalating into physical altercations.
Reportedly, when she was only seven years old, he allegedly hit her with such force that it left a visible handprint on her cheek.
His dependency led to Rihanna’s mother having to put in more working hours to provide for the family, which pushed Rihanna to shoulder the role of taking care of her two younger siblings when she was still quite young.
Her longing for a improved existence and her wish to flee her challenging household situation probably spurred her to kickstart her musical journey when she was only 15 years old.
Their bond didn’t get better due to their increased celebrity status; instead, it grew more intricate because their problems frequently played out under the scrutiny of public view.
Throughout the years, Rihanna has faced multiple public disagreements with her father. At one point, he was asked to leave her tour because his behavior towards the crew reportedly embarrassed her. She also expressed frustration when he discussed their private matters openly regarding her contentious relationship with Chris Brown. Additionally, following a rehabilitation program she financed, he attended a charitable event she organized but was subsequently expelled due to having a drink soon after finishing treatment.
In 2019, their relationship took a negative turn when Rihanna filed a lawsuit against her father, Ronald, alleging that he was attempting to capitalize on her celebrity status by utilizing their shared surname for his entertainment ventures.
Rihanna makes her comeback after three years.
