It’s hard to sneak anything past our pups. Their strong sense of smell tips them off to any two-legged or
four-legged newcomer
that comes into their territory. When we got a hamster, we figured that our dogs wouldn’t be too distracted since we kept the tiny pet in a seldom-used room. Wrong! They incessantly sniffed, pawed, and whined at the door, almost as if to say, “We know what’s in there — open up!”
Winston the
Golden Retriever
was almost inconsolable when he wasn’t allowed to have a face-to-face meeting with someone his mom brought home.
In the TikTok from @wackowinston, the gregarious Golden saw his mom go in and out of a room while quickly closing the door behind her. Immediately, he knew something was up. Though Winston didn’t have X-ray vision, he could smell the scent of a feline behind the door. Each time his mom entered or exited, he tried to scoot past her but to no avail.
“POV: Mom rescued a kitten off the highway and Winston is pitching a fit over not being able to see it,” the onscreen text explained.
Winston stood at the door, waiting and whining for a proper introduction. He put his face up close to the camera with a “can you believe this?” look on his face. The fur baby walked away frustrated several times only to come back to the unopened door for more sniffing and whining.
“You cried out here the whole entire time, baby. You can’t go in there, I’m sorry,” Winston’s mom gently told him, as he jumped in protest.
Apparently the two four-legged fur babies never crossed paths. The kitten stayed cozy in the bathroom while at Winston’s, and it looks like his mom may have found the feline a home. But the curious canine had to get down to the bottom of who had been in his house.
“POV: the kitten that mom rescued is gone… and I won’t get out of the bath and stop investigating,” the onscreen text read as Winston sniffed every inch of the tub for clues.
We don’t know if Winston ever cracked the case but he gets props for trying!
