American Rescue Plan Act
This offered financial assistance through loan relief specifically designed for socially disadvantaged farmers. The forgiveness was based on racial criteria and was available exclusively to those deemed qualifying socially disadvantaged farmers or ranchers.
Farmers of Caucasian descent from various parts of the nation subsequently filed lawsuits in federal courts, claiming that the legislation was racially motivated and contravened the equal protection clause of the Constitution. The presiding judge in this matter ultimately determined that the debt relief initiative constituted “a genuine constitutional violation.”
Republican Representative Mark Alford from Missouri appeared on “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” to discuss the loan program. He stated that it was unfair and emphasized the importance of applying consistent standards when assisting all farmers.
“USDA should return to supporting farmers,” Alford stated. “Farmers are struggling financially; we’re seeing a loss of about 1,000 farms each month, which impacts both our food safety and national security.”
Alford stated that the program is “extremely unlawful” and labeled it as reverse discrimination. Additionally, he mentioned that he intends to investigate whether farmers within his constituency have been impacted by the Biden administration’s initiative.
“It’s absurd to think otherwise; these farmers work incredibly hard and dedicate countless efforts to cultivating corn and soybeans within my district,” Alford stated. “Denying them assistance just due to their race makes absolutely no sense.”
