Geoffrey Owens, one of Warner’s co-stars on The Cosby Show, expressed his deep sorrow in a statement. “This tragedy has almost left me speechless,” he said. “Malcolm was a lovely man, a sweet and sensitive soul. Warner rose to fame as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, a role that earned him widespread recognition. At just 13 years old, he was chosen for the part by Bill Cosby himself. His early success led to appearances on Saturday Night Live at the age of 16, as well as roles in Sesame Street and various television specials.
In addition to his acting career, Warner was also a musician and performance poet. He released his debut album, The Miles Long Mixtape, in 2003. In 2015, his collaboration with Robert Glasper and Lalah Hathaway, “Jesus Children,” won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance.
Warner continued to work in television, appearing in shows such as Community, Key & Peele, and Reed Between the Lines. From 2018 to 2023, he starred on the Fox medical drama The Resident. His final screen credits came in four episodes of 9-1-1 last year.
