More than 100 rural homes have been powered, over 3,000 households gained access to clean water, and nearly 2,500 patients received medical care as part of activities marking the close of the 2025 Defence and Security Citizen Outreach Programme and the fifth EAC Armed Forces CIMIC Week. On Thursday, July 3, Defence Minister Juvenal Marizamunda oversaw the installation of solar panels on 115 homes in Kabazungu Cell, Musanze District, while the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Mubarakh Muganga, inaugurated a borehole project in Kayonza District that will supply clean water to more than 3,000 households in Ndego Sector. In Kabazungu Cell, solar panels were installed on 115 homes; 70 by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and 45 by the Ministry of Defence. In Kayonza District, Gen Muganga handed over a newly constructed borehole to residents of Ndego Sector to provide clean water to more than 3,000 households in Ndego and surrounding areas, helping to address the long-standing challenge of water scarcity. At around the same time, at Kibungo Level 2 Teaching Hospital in Ngoma District, the Minister of Health, Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, the East African Community (EAC) Secretary General, Veronica Mueni Nduva, and representatives of the Chiefs of Defence Forces from EAC partner states, attended the closing ceremony of activities that saw 2,481 patients treated by EAC military medical personnel at the hospital.
