Quincy Approves Hotel with Rooftop Bar and Restaurant Plan

A potential new attraction might be coming to the Gem City.

The Quincy Planning Commission granted a unique permit for a new hotel featuring a rooftop bar and dining area that offers views of the river on Maine Street, number 200.

It will be constructed after completely tearing down the Welcome Inn located on the same site.

The exclusive permit is designated for the rooftop bar and restaurant. At present, the maximum height allowed for specific sections of buildings in this zoning area is 50 feet to prevent obstructing the river views. This project will stand at 68 feet when finished.

Now that the commission has provided its suggestion, the city council will have the opportunity to officially approve the project during their meeting on August 4th.

“We can design some stunning views of the riverfront for both the restaurant, which will serve as a public attraction, and the guest rooms. Therefore, we believe that with all the elements—such as the event space, the restaurant, and the high-quality hotel rooms—we are introducing something new to Quincy that will be appreciated by everyone and may encourage more leisure travel,” said Sam Adler, Managing Director of Development at New + Found.

Quincy, the Director of Planning and Development, Jason Parrott, thinks the attraction would draw tourists to the area.

“You mention a draw, regarding what we’ve witnessed in recent years, when that building was shut down and its declining condition, now you’ll have this gem that you’ll see right next to the river,” Parrott said.

If the city council approves within two weeks, the next steps will involve submitting site plans and building designs before commencement of construction.

As of Tuesday, the new hotel’s name has not been finalized yet.
