Qatar Airways has resumed flight operations to Rwanda three years after their last passenger flight to Kigali International Airport in December 2021, Rwanda Airports Company (RAC) announced today. The reinstated flights are expected to increase international arrivals, benefiting local businesses, hospitality providers, and tour operators. “We are happy to return to Kigali. Our aim is to work with our partners RwandAir to offer travelers more options, and greater convenience, especially as we look ahead to the opening of the new airport in 2028,” said Yasser Mohamed Ali, the Regional Services Manager for Qatar Airways, in the statement by RAC. For Rwanda, the return of Qatar Airways’ direct service from Doha to Kigali represents a strategic step towards strengthening its status as a key player in East African tourism. “We are happy to welcome you back to your second home. We look forward to a strong partnership with Qatar Airways as we continue to position Kigali as a key hub in the region,” said Charles Habonimana, the Managing Director of Rwanda Airports Company. For Jules Muheto Ndenga, CEO of Aviation Travel and Logistics Holding Limited (ATL), the relaunch aligns with the vision of both nations’ leaders. He said: “This relaunch reflects the vision of our leaders, President Paul Kagame and the Emir of Qatar. Together, we are building a new airport and deepening partnerships, including with Rwanda’s national carrier. This relaunch will enhance the passenger experience, and we’re here to support you in raising the bar of operations in Rwanda, he added. Qatar Airways has a partnership with RwandAir, including cargo operations. The two airlines signed a codeshare agreement in 2021.
