Crackdown on Illegal Lion Ownership in Punjab

In Lahore, the efforts led to the recovery of four lions and the arrest of four people. Authorities also sealed one unauthorized enclosure and filed three First Information Reports (FIRs). In Gujranwala, officials seized four lions and commenced legal proceedings. Similar actions were reported in both Faisalabad and Multan, where lions were recovered and multiple cases were filed.
The Wildlife Department emphasized that the illegal ownership of lions is not only a serious offense but also poses a significant threat to the safety of nearby residents. They reiterated that no individual is allowed to keep wild animals without the necessary documentation. The department warned that strict legal measures will be enforced against those found violating the law. Ensuring the safety of both the animals and the public remains their top priority.
Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb publicly endorsed the crackdown, stating that the government will not tolerate any form of illegal wildlife trade.
