RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – People will have the chance to weigh in on the future of transportation in KOTA Territory Thursday at the Rapid City Area Metropolitan Planning Organization public open house at City Hall.
The draft version of the long-range Metropolitan Transportation Plan called Rapid Trip 2050 outlines the area’s goals for roads, public transit, pedestrian and bike paths, freight, and regional air travel over the next 25 years.
The Rapid City Area Metropolitan Planning Organization updates this plan every five years as part of a federal requirement to ensure the region’s transportation network grows safely and efficiently.
Project staff and transportation planners will be present to answer questions and get public feedback.
“We really rely on public input because the public is our eyes and ears on what happens on our roadways every day. Whether you’re going to work or school or traveling through the area, we want to know what’s going on out there,” said Kip Harrington, the long-range planner for Rapid City Community Development.
“Like I said, as planners, we can’t be everywhere at once, so we don’t know what’s going on all the time,” said Harrington.
The plan will be presented in both the council chambers and the Circle of Friends Community Room from 4 to 6 p.m.
The deadline to submit comments is July 3.
