Celebrating Excellence and Dedication at Wiltshire College
Wiltshire College and University Centre recently held its annual staff awards, a celebration of the hard work and commitment of its professional and curriculum staff. The event, held at the Lackham campus, brought together over 850 attendees to recognize outstanding contributions and reflect on the achievements of the 2024–25 academic year.
Iain Hatt, principal and chief executive of the college, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the staff. He stated, “This year, we’ve seen many impressive projects, examples of community engagement, fundraising, and positive contributions to our college community. Staff have played a key role in supporting events and activities across all campuses, and I’m genuinely grateful to everyone who has contributed to the success of the college.”
Recognizing Outstanding Contributions
The awards ceremony featured more than 150 peer nominations across four categories, with 22 winners selected by a judging panel. One of the recipients was John Bolton, an IT desktop engineer who received the Student Experience award. He shared his gratitude, saying, “I’m very grateful for the recognition, and it’s lovely to accept this award.”
These awards not only highlight individual achievements but also emphasize the collaborative spirit that drives the college forward. Each winner represents the dedication and passion that staff bring to their roles, contributing to a positive learning environment for students.
Achievements and Progress
The college has made significant strides in various areas over the past year. Notably, there were 128,800 hours of industry placements, providing students with valuable real-world experience. Additionally, the college saw a continued increase in 16–19 applications, marking the second consecutive year of growth.
In terms of student accommodation, the college received an Ofsted ‘Good’ rating for its residential facilities at Lackham. This recognition underscores the quality of living conditions provided to students and reflects the college’s commitment to their overall well-being.
Community Engagement and Events
Beyond academic and professional achievements, the college has also been actively involved in community initiatives. The annual lambing events at the Lackham campus attracted almost 5,000 visitors, showcasing the college’s connection to local agriculture and its role as a community hub.
These events not only provide educational opportunities for students but also offer a glimpse into rural life and the importance of sustainable farming practices. The positive feedback from attendees highlights the value of such initiatives in fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.
Looking Ahead
As the college looks to the future, the focus remains on continuing to support student success through dedicated staff, innovative programs, and strong community ties. The recognition of staff achievements serves as a reminder of the vital role they play in shaping the college’s culture and ensuring its ongoing success.
With a commitment to excellence and a focus on collaboration, Wiltshire College and University Centre are well-positioned to continue making a positive impact on the lives of students and the wider community.
