If you’re planning your next Disney World vacation, making a reservation at California Grill is a must. Located at the Contemporary Resort, this iconic restaurant is celebrating its 30th anniversary and has introduced some exciting new menu items while bringing back fan favorites.
Atmosphere and Ambiance
From the moment you enter California Grill, you’re greeted by an elegant and upscale atmosphere. The restaurant features intricate lighting fixtures and floor-to-ceiling windows that provide stunning views of Magic Kingdom and Seven Seas Lagoon. This setting offers a more refined experience compared to many other in-park restaurants, making it an ideal spot to unwind after a busy day.

As a Disney signature restaurant, California Grill does not participate in the Disney Dining Plan. Additionally, it enforces a dress code, encouraging guests to wear attire that aligns with the restaurant’s sophisticated and upscale aesthetic. Guests are advised to ensure their clothing is clean, neat, and in good condition.
Menu Highlights
California Grill offers a three-course prix fixe menu for both adults and children, recently updated to celebrate the 30th anniversary. The menu includes beloved items such as Sonoma goat cheese ravioli, grilled pork tenderloin, and blueberry goat cheese cheesecake. Diners can choose one appetizer, one entrée, and one dessert, with the server also bringing a tray of bread and butter to enjoy while sipping drinks and placing orders.
The goat cheese ravioli was particularly impressive—rich, savory, and beautifully presented. For the entrée, I chose the seared market fish, which turned out to be flaky and perfectly cooked salmon. To finish, I enjoyed the pistachio-chocolate mousse, which was one of the best desserts I’ve had at Disney. The soft, creamy mousse paired perfectly with the pistachio croutons and delicate chocolate garnish.

Stunning Views and Fireworks
One of the main attractions of dining at California Grill is the breathtaking view of Magic Kingdom’s fireworks. Guests have exclusive access to the restaurant’s private terrace, offering an unobstructed view of Happily Ever After each night. The restaurant even plays the accompanying music inside, allowing those seated near the window to enjoy the show from their table.
To catch the fireworks during your meal, it’s best to book a reservation around 7:30 p.m., as the show typically starts at 9:20 p.m. Even if you dine earlier in the day, you can return later that evening to watch the fireworks from the balcony. I discovered this on my most recent visit, despite considering myself a Disney expert.
Is California Grill Worth It?
Having visited California Grill three times, I can confidently say it’s worth experiencing at least once. While the meal isn’t cheap—prices start at $89 for adults and $39 for kids (not including alcohol)—the panoramic view of Magic Kingdom’s fireworks creates a truly unforgettable experience.
If you’re celebrating a special occasion like an anniversary, graduation, or birthday, California Grill is the perfect place. However, don’t expect it to be your go-to for a casual night out. It’s a unique dining experience that combines exquisite food with unforgettable views, making it a standout choice for any Disney World trip.
