A disturbing incident has shaken the Pittsburgh community after a man is accused of violently harming a 10-month-old baby, resulting in severe injuries that required emergency medical intervention. The suspect, Dominic Pinnick, is reported to be the boyfriend of the child’s mother and is expected to face serious charges.
According to authorities, Pinnick is set to be formally charged on Sunday night with criminal attempted homicide and three counts of aggravated assault. The baby, who was found in critical condition, is reportedly not expected to survive due to the severity of his injuries. Medical Findings Point to Abuse
Doctors involved in the case have provided crucial insights into the nature of the baby’s injuries. They stated that the child had a large skull fracture, multiple retinal hemorrhages, and signs of violent shaking. These findings are consistent with abusive head trauma, a term used to describe injuries caused by forceful shaking or impact.

Upon arrival, officers found the baby unresponsive, not breathing on his own, and experiencing multiple seizures. He was rushed to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for urgent care.

During the investigation, a doctor informed investigators that the baby had numerous knots and bruises, further supporting the theory of non-accidental injury. The child’s condition was so dire that he required emergency surgery to save his life.
Pinnick’s Account of the Events
In a police interview, Pinnick described the events leading up to the incident. He claimed he was asked by the baby’s parent to look after the child. According to his statement, he heard the baby crying and went upstairs to console him. When he entered the bedroom, the baby was on the floor next to the bed and would not stop crying.
Pinnick said he became frustrated and began walking around the room, hitting the child’s head against the wooden canopy bed posts approximately three or four times. He also claimed he “aggressively placed the child on the bed, aggressively rocked the baby, and grabbed the child and aggressively rubbed the back of the baby’s head.” Additionally, he stated that he “struck his head on the headboard.”
After seeing the baby’s limp body, Pinnick called 911 for help.
Ongoing Investigation and Concerns
Despite the detailed account provided by Pinnick, the medical evidence suggests that the injuries were not accidental. The combination of skull fractures, retinal hemorrhages, and brain swelling points to intentional harm.
