Pilot’s Distressing Personal Struggles Emerge on Air: ‘A Series of Disasters’

A news helicopter pilot covering the protests in Los Angeles on Saturday shared some unrest of his own on a hot mic.

Stu Mundel

of Fox 11 was flying over the city covering the massive protests that were part of the nationwide “No Kings” direct action against President

Donald Trump

. Angelenos have staged numerous
demonstrations
, particularly since last week after federal agents raided a series of businesses in the area looking to arrest and deport undocumented immigrants.

In an online live stream from Mundel’s helicopter, the veteran pilot began discussing his personal life, seemingly unaware that his microphone was still on. At one point, Mundel made a long, grunting sound, apparently in response to a question from someone in his ear. It is unclear what the question was, but Mundel responded:

Ehhhhhhhhhh, the answer is yes. You know what? I don’t care. I don’t care about my– I, uh, I am married. I am, I am

legally

married. I am

legally

married. That’s about the only way you can really say it. I am

legally

married. But I am not looking at– now at all.

I just had a bunch of debacles with my personal life. Yes, it’s true. I know it’s hard to believe. Somebody that doesn’t even know what he’s talking about in their relationship. And you know, but uh, yeah. I, I, I got nothin’ right now. Got nothin’. Got nothin’. Not really lookin’. Uh, you know, trying to find myself and be happy. I’m being serious about that. I want to behold– I want to be beholden to no one at this moment. You know? Do I get lonely? Of course, of course. But I got cats. [laughs]

I think all that information’s on the internet. Look at all those red cars down there.

Earlier in his reporting, Mundel covered a group of protesters on the steps of a building.

“I’m just a bill and I’m sittin’ on Capitol Hill,” he
said
, referring to the Schoolhouse Rock “Bill” character sitting on the steps of the Capitol. “That’d be funny if one of those guys’ names down there was named Bill. That’s not Capitol Hill, though.”
