Peter White Public Library Invites Adults to Unleash Creativity and Dive into Reading

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – The
Peter White Public Library
says summer reading programs aren’t only for kids.

Peter White Public Library is catering
summer reading programs
to adults. The program allows people to chart their reading for a chance to win prizes and invites them to join in on
Art Escapes
.

Art Escapes are artistic activities that encourage creativity. Peter White will host four different Art Escapes events. These include cardmaking, rock painting and a BYOP, or Bring Your Own Project event.

On Thursday, people sat back and relaxed while they colored ceramic coasters and coloring book pages.

Amy Salminen, PWPL adult services librarian, says it provides a good example for kids when adults read.

“Modeling good reading and habits and by helping them read also makes sure that kids know that reading is important to be able to do in our community,” Salminen said. “It keeps us informed, it keeps us learning throughout our life and that’s really what we want people to be able to do.”

Summer reading participants can fill out up to 10 summer reading bookmarks with books they’ve read this summer. They can turn in those bookmarks to be entered into a prize drawing.

Salminen says you can learn more or register for future events by stopping by the library’s reference desk, calling the reference desk at 906-226-4311 or emailing [email protected].
