Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he is not under anyone’s influence and cannot be controlled by any politician.
Wike made the statement while responding to reports that he was upset with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, over his alleged presidential ambition.
Speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, Wike dismissed the claims, saying Makinde would have worked to resolve the ongoing crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if he truly intended to contest for president.
“You can’t put people like us in your pocket; it’s not possible,” Wike said. “Ask Fayose he knows. You must understand people: some can accept certain things, others cannot.”
He added, “Why should I not be happy for Makinde to be a presidential candidate? Let’s not make issues out of nothing.
Being a presidential candidate isn’t about your degree or profession. It’s not something you just wake up one morning and declare.”
Wike further noted that some politicians merely desire the title of “presidential candidate” without showing the seriousness or leadership needed to unite their party.
His remarks came at a time of deep division within the PDP, as several factions struggle for control ahead of the 2027 general elections.
