A statement issued by the Media Relations Department of Parliament and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Friday, said, the vetting process will assess the nominees’ qualifications, experience, and judicial philosophy to determine their suitability for the role.

According to Article 144 (2) of the 1992 Constitution, the President nominated these individuals for elevation to the nation’s highest court.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament, chaired by the First Deputy Speaker, Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, will scrutinize the nominees’ credentials before final approval by Parliament.

This process is expected to generate public interest, as the appointments will strengthen the judiciary.

The nominations have drawn criticism from some quarters, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) describing the move as a veiled attempt to push an alleged “third-term political agenda.”

The Appointments Committee consists of 11 members, with seven from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and four from the NPP

The members include Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman; Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Vice Chairperson; Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Ranking Member and Madam Patricia Appiagyei, Deputy Ranking Member.
