OZARK, Alabama (WDHN) — A Wiregrass family is seeking resolution even though they have found some peace regarding the disappearance of a man who went missing a decade ago.
The Childree family has been searching for their missing relative, Charles Childree, since he disappeared in June 2015.
“Over the years, we have come to accept that he is gone, and we think he is in heaven with his brother, sister, mother, and father,” said Rhoda Childree Hall, Charles’ niece.
His relatives, such as his brother and sister, as well as his nieces, nephews, and cousins, have not had any contact or communication with him since June 21st, 2015.
They have all discovered a method to prevent this from taking over their lives, yet we all miss Charles and hold him in high regard. Much has been accomplished over the past decade.
Children was an enthusiastic walker, even though he struggled with poor health caused by leukemia. He walked ten miles throughout the Arguta neighborhood in Dale County. He would start his journey from his home on County Road 15 and turn left onto County Road 13 to gather bottles and socialize with locals in the area.
“It’s probable that on that hot July morning, he woke up and took a walk, and something occurred. It might have been an act of foul play, but perhaps he wandered into the woods, and we simply don’t know. He never returned home,” said Hall.
Hall states that the sheriff’s department has been supporting them since the incident occurred, carrying out three to four searches each week until today, ensuring the community is informed and sharing updates on social media for the 10-year anniversary. Their goal is to provide the family with closure, which they still hope to accomplish.
There has been nothing so far. Perhaps one day someone might find some glasses, false teeth, or clothing. We certainly hope no harm came to him, but we had to accept the situation in order to try not to be concerned about it.
She thanks everyone for keeping this cold case in the spotlight, and if you have any information that might be helpful, please report it.
