The Oyo State administration handed out approximately 18,000 tablet computers to educators in public primary and secondary schools throughout the state’s 33 local government regions on Tuesday, as part of initiatives aimed at enhancing teaching effectiveness and increasing academic results.
Governor Seyi Makinde was represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal, who carried out the presentation at Emmanuel College in Agbowo, Ibadan.
He stated that all recipients would be required to complete a four-week training program at 16 locations throughout the state to ensure they gain the necessary understanding and abilities to operate the devices efficiently.

The program was organized by the Global Partnership for Education, funded by the World Bank in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission and the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board.
Makinde referred to the project as a “courageous move in advancing digital education” within Oyo State, highlighting that the tablets come equipped with instructional content, academic resources, and electronic learning platforms to assist educators in creating and presenting lessons more efficiently.
“This goes beyond distributing devices; it’s about providing our educators with contemporary tools that align with international standards in teaching. The tablet comes preloaded with various applications and is intended for every teacher in this state — a total of 18,000. We are committed to improving the quality of education and ensuring our students receive the highest level of learning opportunities,” he stated.
The leader stated that the tablets would also serve to monitor lesson plans, evaluate students’ progress, and supply immediate data for educational planning and the development of policies.
He emphasized his administration’s dedication to reforming the education system, noting that the 2025 funding for the sector has already exceeded the UNESCO benchmark.
Makinde praised the involvement of key parties, such as BESDA, SUBEB, TESCOM, the Ministry of Education, and UBEC, encouraging educators to respond with their own devotion and loyalty.
The Governor’s Special Advisor for Education Intervention, Suraj Tiamiyu, stated that the training will take place in 16 locations across the state.
The head of SUBEB, Nureni Adeniran, commended the effort, stating that the tools would improve both the standard of instruction and student outcomes.
A recipient, Olufisayo Fajuyigbe, representing the educators, expressed gratitude to the governor for his continuous support in the field of education.
Prominent attendees at the event were South-West Director of UBEC, Alabi Baba-Asaju; Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Adelabu Solihu; Commissioner for Special Duties, Faosat Sanni; Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke; Chairperson of TESCOM, Olubukola Oladipo; Chairman of the State Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Ayodele Adekanmbi; and State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Ismael Raji, along with other notable individuals.
