Opal Suchata Chuangsri from Thailand was crowned Miss World on Saturday during the international competition held this year in India.
Chuangshri emerged as the winner among 108 participants in the contest conducted in Hyderabad, a city in southern India. The first runner-up was Hasset Dereje Admassu from Ethiopia.
Chuangsri was crowned by last year’s winner, Krystyna Pyszková.
The 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant was emceed by Stephanie del Valle, who won the title in 2016, alongside Indian host Sachiin Kumbhar. This event marked India’s second consecutive hosting of the prestigious beauty contest.
India’s Nandini Gupta advanced to the top 20 but then bowed out.
Six Indian women have claimed the top honor, namely Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999), Priyanka Chopra (2000), and Manushi Chillar (2017).
