On Campus: Outstanding Successes of Ellington and Somers Students

Recognizing Academic Excellence: Local Students Shine in Higher Education

Recent months have seen a number of outstanding achievements by students from Ellington and Somers, highlighting their dedication to academic excellence. These accomplishments span various institutions across the country, showcasing the diverse talents and hard work of these young scholars.

At Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, Aaron J. Mickiewicz from Ellington was honored with second honors on the Dean’s List for the spring 2025 semester. This recognition is reserved for students who maintain a GPA between 3.50 and 3.79, reflecting exceptional academic performance. For those aiming for first honors, a GPA of 3.8 or higher is required.

Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts, also celebrated its students. Nathan Beturne of Ellington and Melea Wolters of Somers were both named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2025 semester. Their success underscores the commitment to academic excellence that is evident across the region.

Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, recognized two students from Ellington for their achievements. Ashley Maningas, majoring in marketing communication and part of the Class of 2026, and Colleen McGrath, studying theatre education and part of the Class of 2028, both made the Dean’s List. To qualify, students must achieve a GPA of 3.7 or higher for the semester.

Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts, saw several local students earn spots on the spring 2025 Dean’s List. Ava Caron, Kevin Lunsford, and Hannah Spivey from Ellington, along with Ryan Symington from Somers, were all recognized. Each student had to meet strict criteria, including a minimum GPA of 3.5, no grades below a “C,” no withdrawal grades, and enrollment in at least 12 credits for the semester.

Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire, held its 154th anniversary commencement ceremonies in May 2025. Caleb Duff and Garrett Maznicki, both from Somers, graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in marketing. The event took place at the Bank of New Hampshire Field House in the Active Living, Learning, and Wellness (ALLWell) North Building.

At the State University of New York in Cortland, New York, Ryan Wheeler, an archaeology major from Ellington, was selected among 13 students for a donor-funded summer fellowship research program. Now in its 19th year, this initiative provides students with a $4,000 stipend, campus research space, and housing during eight weeks of full-time study. Participants will present their findings at the university’s annual Transformations: A Student Research and Creativity Conference.

The University of Mississippi in University, Mississippi, also recognized local talent. Peyton Holden, from Ellington, was named to the Chancellor’s Honor Roll for the spring 2025 semester. As a psychology major, Holden achieved a GPA of 3.75 to 4.00, meeting the high standards required for this prestigious honor. To be eligible, students must complete at least 12 graded hours for the semester and not be on academic probation.

These accomplishments reflect the dedication and perseverance of students from Ellington and Somers as they pursue their educational goals. Their success serves as an inspiration to others and highlights the strong academic culture in the region. As more achievements are reported, it is clear that these students are making significant contributions to their respective fields.
