CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Oak Mound Evangelical Church in Clarksburg hosted its Independence Day celebration Thursday night, where families gathered to enjoy a fireworks display set off by the City of Clarksburg.
The celebration was free and open to the public, offering a welcoming atmosphere with complimentary hot dogs, chips, bottled water and ice pops, which church officials said are perfect for a summer night. Officials with Oak Mound Church said their Independence Day celebration festivities draws in approximately 250 people out to the celebration each year.
“It’s always great to celebrate the birthday of our country and the freedoms that we have, and like I said, we have a pretty good number typically come out to be with us. Last year we think probably approaching 300 people, and so we park them in here and have a good time, good time of fellowship,” the Pastor of Oak Mound Evangelical Church, Steve DeLay, said.
Kids were able to enjoy a
bouncy house and balloon animals, while families gathered together
in anticipation of a vibrant fireworks display that lit up the Clarksburg sky in honor of America’s birthday.
“Everyone that comes up here, we give them a gospel tract that tell them how to trust the lord as their savior, you know, Jesus came to die for us on the cross,” DeLay said. “Our job as a church is to tell people that you don’t have to wonder about life, you don’t have to wonder why you’re here, give your heart and life to Jesus, trust him as your savior, believe in him. You can have eternal life, but life in this world becomes a whole lot better.”
Also, Pastor DeLay expressed that as part of the community, the church likes to offer a helping hand while also being an active part of the greater Clarksburg community.
