NUC Approves 18 New Programs for UNIJOS

The National Universities Commission has given approval for the creation of 18 new full-time academic courses at the University of Jos.

The institution’s Senior Deputy Registrar, Abdullahi Abdullahi, verified the update in a statement released on Monday, stating that the programs will begin during the 2025/2026 academic term.

He characterized the approval as a major growth in the university’s academic programs, designed to improve educational access and meet the changing requirements of students and the broader public.

Abdullahi mentioned that the approval came after a thorough Resource Verification visit carried out by the NUC, during which they evaluated the human and physical resources available at the university for effectively launching the programs.

He stated that the assessment confirmed the University of Jos is adequately prepared to deliver high-quality education in the emerging disciplines.

The latest academic programs cover a wide array of fields, such as B.Sc. Data Science, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Software Engineering, B.Sc. Information Systems, and B.Sc. Information Technology.

The Commission also approved the creation of programs in B.RAD. Radiography, D.P.T. Physiotherapy, B.Sc. Entrepreneurship, B.Sc. Public Administration, B.Sc. Forensic Science, B.Sc. Pharmacology, and B.Sc. Social Work.

The Commission stated that these programs are currently authorized for full-time undergraduate study only, with the possibility of future growth into postgraduate options, which would require additional communication to the NUC for accurate documentation.

“This endorsement marks a significant achievement in the University’s dedication to excellence and equipping students with essential skills and knowledge to tackle modern challenges,” Abdullahi concluded.
