Thirty-five others were injured in the attack, which was triggered by a bomb planted in the bathroom of room 629. The device was detonated at 2:54 am, causing extensive damage and chaos.
Despite the tragedy, Margaret Thatcher, who was also present at the hotel, survived the attack. Hours later, she delivered one of her most defiant speeches, demonstrating her resilience and determination to lead the country through difficult times.
