Nigerian Pilgrim Returns Lost $5,000 to Owner in Saudi Arabia

A Nigerian pilgrim named Hajiya Zainab, hailing from Plateau State, has returned $5,000 (approximately ₦8.2 million) she discovered at Masjidul Haram in Mecca to its actual owner, a Russian pilgrim.

The Plateau State Pilgrims Board, led by Daiyabu Dauda, and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, praised her honesty and integrity.

“She exhibited extraordinary integrity and truthfulness by returning $5,000 she discovered at Masjidul Haram to its legitimate owner. This is indeed a commendable deed,” stated Dauda.

In the meantime, NAHCON reports that they are negotiating with Saudi officials to resumevisa services for potential pilgrims.

The disclosure was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Assistant Director of Information for NAHCON, Fatima Usara.

Usara mentioned that the commission expressed continued optimism.

“There is hope for a favorable result, and once this is achieved, the commission will promptly arrange for the transportation of the registered pilgrims for the Hajj through a separate special plan,” stated Usara.

She mentioned that certain employees have been put on hold in anticipation of the potential reopening of the visa application period.
