A New Lighting Scheme Lights Up the Heart of Pershore
A fresh and vibrant lighting scheme is now illuminating the central area of Pershore, bringing a new level of charm and appeal to the town. The LED festoon lights are now stretching along the High Street in a zig-zag formation, from The Angel to The New Inn. This initiative is part of broader efforts to improve the town centre and boost the nighttime economy.
Darren Eden, chairman of the Pershore Place Board, expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating that the new lights look fantastic and significantly enhance the appearance of the high street. He added that these lights will offer something unique for residents and visitors to enjoy, especially as the seasons change and the colors shift.
The lighting system is twice as long as the previous installation, allowing for more flexibility and visual impact. It can be programmed to change colors in celebration of festivals and national holidays, adding a dynamic element to the town’s ambiance throughout the year.
During the summer months, the lights will activate at dusk, while in winter they will remain on from around 3pm. This thoughtful approach ensures that the lights are visible during the darker evenings, creating a welcoming environment for those walking through the area.
The project was made possible through collaboration between the Pershore Place Board, Wychavon District Council, and Pershore Town Council. Funding came from Wychavon’s share of the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, highlighting the importance of local partnerships in driving community development.
Councillor Richard Morris, leader and executive board member for economic growth and tourism, shared his delight at working with the various councils to deliver this enhanced lighting scheme. He emphasized that the initiative would create a warm and inviting atmosphere for both residents and visitors.
Charlie MacIntyre, clerk of Pershore Town Council, expressed the council’s satisfaction with the completion of the project, which was made possible by generous funding from the Pershore Place Board. For several years, the town council had aimed to extend the lighting to cover the entire High Street, and they are thrilled to have achieved this goal.
MacIntyre also highlighted the sense of pride and gratitude felt by the community, noting that they are “very lucky” to live in such a “wonderful” town. The new lighting scheme not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the area but also contributes to a more vibrant and engaging environment for all who visit or reside in Pershore.
