New £9.5m Art and Design Hub Unveiled at College

A New Era for Creative Education at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College in Eastleigh has taken a significant step forward in its commitment to creative education by officially opening a new £9.5 million Art and Design building. This state-of-the-art facility is set to provide students with an inspiring environment to explore and develop their artistic talents.

The official opening ceremony was led by Wayne Hemingway MBE, a renowned designer and founder of Hemingway Design. He is also the co-founder of the fashion brand Red or Dead and has played a key role in the regeneration of Eastleigh town centre. His involvement highlights the importance of creativity in shaping communities and fostering innovation.

Rob Temple, the principal of Barton Peveril, expressed his enthusiasm for the new building, calling it an “exceptional space” for students. He stated, “This is an exceptional space for our students, designed specifically for the needs of the art courses we run at Barton.” The principal emphasized that the college has always recognized the vital role of creative industries and culture in the UK, and this new building reinforces its dedication to providing students with top-notch facilities to thrive.

The 1,850-square-metre building is equipped with dedicated spaces for students studying various disciplines, including fine art, photography and moving image, graphic communications, textiles, and product design. It also includes specialized facilities for UAL level four Foundation Art and Design students, offering them a unique opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College serves more than 4,900 full-time students aged 16 to 18 from across south-central Hampshire, including Eastleigh, Fareham, Romsey, Southampton, and Winchester. The college offers a wide range of A-level and vocational courses aimed at supporting student progression into higher education and employment.
