Neglect Investigation Reveals: Dogs Had to Be Tranquilized as Court Documents Unveil Woman’s Cruelty

ALTAMONT, Mo. (KCTV) – Charges have been filed against an Altamont woman after three dogs had to be tranquilized and surrendered to an animal rescue when they were found running in May.

Daviess County, Missouri, Circuit Court
records filed on Wednesday, June 25, indicate that Gloria D. Farley, 65, of Altamont, has been charged with animal neglect.

A probable cause statement filed by the
Daviess County Sheriff’s Office
revealed that on May 20, law enforcement officials were called to Farley’s home after reports of several dogs running through the area. When they arrived, they found the dogs and were unable to control them, so they had to call the registered owner, Farley.

Law enforcement officials indicated that Farley surrendered the dogs to them and consented to have them tranquilized so they could be transported to a nearby shelter.

Investigators noted that they had been called to Farley’s home in the past. The most recent time, in October 2024, they were forced to euthanize 3 other aggressive canines.

The Sheriff’s Office said that further investigation revealed that none of the four dogs on Farley’s property, which was in disarray, had access to clean water or adequate shelter. One was even found shivering with little access to dry ground.

As a result, court documents indicated that Farley was charged with four counts of animal neglect, misdemeanors which could net her up to two months behind bars and a $3,000 fine. A criminal summons was issued for her to appear in court at 9 a.m. on Aug. 5.
