  • Rosemary Wangui gave birth at a city hospital two years ago, and unknown to her, doctors had left two bandages in her body, and it had been causing her recurring infections

  • She returned to the same hospital complaining of recurring infections, and she was treated for them, while another hospital insisted that she was having UTIs

  • When she visited a gynaecologist, a CT scan revealed that she had something stuck, and when one of the bandages was removed, another was found to be stuck in her bladder

  • Her sister told .co.ke that sadly, there was sepsis and it had affected the important organs, and then went to her heart, costing the life of the young mother

Kamulu, Nairobi

: A family in Kamulu has been thrown into mourning after the death of their dear daughter and sister, Rosemary Wangui, who was left with bandages for two years after an operation.

When did Wangui have surgery?

Speaking to

.co.ke

, her sister, identified as Bernice, shared that two years ago, Wangui was admitted to a city hospital for a caesarean section procedure to have a baby. All went well…or so she thought.

“After some time, she started having infections and at some point she started bleeding heavily. When the young mother retuned to the hospital she was given meds to treat infections and told to go home,”said Alice.

All this time, Wamgui was getting treatment from the same hospital where she gave birth, and given the recurring infections, her sister asked her to go elsewhere for another opinion. Wangui visited Penda Hospital.

“She was also treated for Urinary Tract Infections (UTI). Every time she was treated, the infections would recur after four days,” said Alice.

“We decided to visit a gynaecologist who was concerned and ordered an ultrasound and that is how we found that she had something in the stomach. He then ordered a CT Scan and that is how they discovered what had been ailing Wangui,” she added.

What killed Wangui?

Wangui went back to the hospital where she gave birth and was told that the recurring infections were due to the method of family planning. She denied being on any family planning, and it all fell on deaf ears.

“They asked us to give them 14 days so they could get back to us, but she did not even make it to the 14 days. She died on Saturday, June 14, at Murang’a Hospital, fighting for her life. She developed sepsis in her body and died,” said her distraught sister.

Wangui is survived by her two children, with the youngest one being only two years old. The mum of two left behind a KSh 700,000 bill, and the family is asking for help to raise the money.

Nairobi coupe awarded KSh 157m after bitched surgery

Meanwhile, a Nairobi couple was awarded KSh 157 million in damages for a botched surgery after a 19-year legal battle.

Naila Qureshi and her husband were awarded the money on June 4. In 2006, Naila underwent surgery at the Aga Khan Health Service for pelvic issues as well as endometriosis. At the time, her cervix was removed without her consent.

The court found the gynaecologist who attended to her guilty of gross negligence as he performed an unauthorised procedure.
