Since the introduction of Nigeria’s 25-year Space Roadmap in 2005, advancements in space science and technology have made considerable progress, demonstrating notable achievements; however, there is still substantial potential for further enhancement.

Led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria has gained fresh impetus in its aspirations for space exploration via decisive and well-planned instructions.

For example, the president’s endorsement of a multi-billion-naira take-off fund for the National Space Research and Development Agency, coupled with permission for launching four more satellites, clearly demonstrates an unshakeable dedication to advancing space technology.

These efforts underscore space technology as a key pillar of our national strategy—fostering economic diversity, bolstering intelligence capacities, and enhancing sovereignty amid a rapidly evolving worldwide environment.

Against this background, the conference transcends mere bilateral interaction; it serves as a focal point for national collaboration, aligning with Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at fostering a thriving Nigeria,” stated the CAS.

He stated that the NAF aims to create a future wherein the Nigerian Air Force takes the lead in utilizing artificial intelligence and space technology to fulfill its mission with unparalleled flexibility and toughness, dedicated to serving Nigeria and its citizens.

Discussing the theme of the Colloquium—’Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Efficient Use of Space Science Technology to Improve NAF Operations—the keynote speaker, retired Air Vice Marshal Charles Otegbade, praised the organizers for creating an opportunity to assess and evaluate how advancements in artificial intelligence and space science technology have influenced the fulfillment of the NAF’s mission objectives. He commended their initiative as highly laudable.

Previously, during his welcoming speech, the Head of Communications Information Systems at NAF Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal S K Usman, stated that the integration of artificial intelligence with space technology is reshaping the limits of what is possible in contemporary operations.

He mentioned that the International Colloquium aims deliberately at investigating ways AI-powered advancements can boost the air force operations of Nigeria from space.

“We strive to thoroughly analyze ways to improve the incorporation of artificial intelligence into Nigerian Air Force missions for better situational understanding, efficient resource allocation, and stronger cyber warfare abilities along with enhanced research initiatives,” he stated.
