MTV VJ Ananda Lewis Passes Away at 52: ‘She’s Finally Free’

(WJW) – Former BET personality and MTV video jockey Ananda Lewis has died at the age of 52.

Lewis’ sister, Lakshmi, announced her passing in a
Facebook post
on Wednesday, saying that, “She’s free, and in His heavenly arms… Lord, rest her soul.”

, Lewis was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer in October of 2023.

She spoke out about the diagnosis during a
CNN roundtable last year
, telling Stephanie Elam and Sara Sidner at the time that her cancer had spread “up my spine, through my hips, everywhere except my brain.”

The Los Angeles native started her career in television back in the 90s, when she hosted “Teen Summit.” She later became a popular VJ at MTV, known for interviewing stars like Britney Spears, NSYNC, Destiny’s Child and others, according to

Stage 4 breast cancer “is cancer that’s spread from your breast to other areas of your body,” and according to the
Cleveland Clinic
, recent data indicates that more than 170,000 women in the U.S. are currently living with it. There is no cure.
