Global Leaders Gather for UIC World Congress on High-Speed Rail in Beijing
The 12th UIC World Congress on High-Speed Rail kicked off in Beijing, focusing on the theme “High-Speed Rail: Innovation and Development for a Better Life.” This major event brings together a diverse group of professionals from around the world to discuss advancements and challenges in high-speed rail technology.
Organized by the International Union of Railways (UIC), the congress is set to run through Friday. It has attracted over 3,000 participants, including experts, engineers, and policymakers, who are expected to share insights on the latest developments in the field. The event serves as a crucial platform for global dialogue among industry leaders.
Morocco is actively participating in the congress, with a delegation led by Mohamed Rabie Khlie, Director General of the Moroccan National Railways Office (ONCF). He is accompanied by Abdellatif Zaghnoun, Director General of the National Agency for Strategic Management of State Holdings (ANGSPE). This marks Morocco’s continued involvement in international rail discussions, following its role in hosting the previous edition in Marrakech in March 2023.
During the congress, Khlie will also attend the 106th General Assembly of the UIC. In this capacity, Morocco holds the vice-presidency of the organization and the presidency of the Africa Region. This leadership position underscores the country’s growing influence in shaping the future of rail transport in Africa and globally.
The UIC World Congress on High-Speed Rail has been held every two to three years since 1992. It remains the premier international forum for exchanging ideas and experiences related to high-speed rail systems. The event not only highlights technological progress but also fosters collaboration among stakeholders from different regions.
This year’s program includes a wide range of activities such as plenary sessions, roundtable discussions, and parallel workshops. These sessions will cover essential topics like planning, construction, technology, equipment, operational management, and rail safety. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations that could shape the future of high-speed rail.
One of the key focuses of the Beijing edition is China’s remarkable achievements in high-speed rail. The country boasts the world’s largest high-speed rail network, spanning over 46,000 kilometers. This infrastructure has significantly contributed to economic growth and improved connectivity across the nation.
The congress also provides an excellent opportunity for countries to showcase their own advancements and learn from others. By bringing together a global audience, the event encourages knowledge sharing and innovation in the rail sector.
As the congress continues, it is expected to generate valuable insights and foster partnerships that can drive the development of high-speed rail systems worldwide. The discussions and collaborations initiated during this event may lead to new strategies and solutions for addressing the challenges faced by the industry.
In summary, the 12th UIC World Congress on High-Speed Rail in Beijing represents a significant milestone in the global rail industry. With participation from various countries and experts, the event highlights the importance of innovation and cooperation in advancing high-speed rail technologies. As the discussions unfold, they are likely to have a lasting impact on the future of rail transport across the world.
