Moms Unite: Standing Strong Against Gun Violence

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Dozens of families and local leaders came together to stand up against gun violence Sunday afternoon.

The non-profit
Moms Demand Action
hosted its annual “Wear Orange” event at Main Line Brewery in Richmond. They honored those who have loss their lives due to guns.

Some of the guest speakers included Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan and Laverne McMullen, a mother who lost her son to gun violence.

“I have a 4-year-old and my worse nightmare is sending him to school and not having him come home,” said Erin Beard with the organization.

“125 Americans lose their lives everyday to gun violence, we know that 260 more are injured by gun violence, so we know that this is an issue that impacts everyone in our community, and it’s important that everyone comes together to help prevent gun violence in our community,” said Kristin Dumont, also with Moms Demand Action.

One of the biggest messages this organization is pushing is safe gun storage and making sure that kids are safe from them.
