Milwaukee Brewers: MLB Insider Names 4 Teams in the Running for Freddy Peralta Trade

The
Milwaukee Brewers
are 39-35 and 6.5 games behind the hated
Chicago Cubs
for the top spot in the National League Central Division. However, they are just one game behind the 39-33 (as of this writing) San Diego Padres for the final Wild Card spot in the National League. And while there is plenty of season left to go, it is clear that Milwaukee has, once again, put themselves in a position to make the postseason.

As it stands, though, they are on the outside looking in, and until their offense can find some consistency, many believe the team could end up being sellers at the trade deadline, especially if they find themselves far behind others in the Wild Card race.

And one name that is sure to be mentioned a great deal leading up to the deadline is that of Brewers ace
Freddy Peralta
.

The Milwaukee Brewers Could Trade Freddy Peralta This Season

It may seem like a wild idea for Milwaukee to consider trading Peralta for a few reasons, not the least of which is that, over the last three seasons, he has been their most consistently healthy pitcher. This year, he is also among the National League’s best aces with a 6-4 record to go with a sparkling 2.60 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 83.0 innings.

But he only has one more year of club control remaining in the form of an $8 million team option for 2026, and has Milwaukee proved when they traded Josh Hader in 2022, they are willing to part with controllable talent early if they feel it is the best decision for the long-term future of the team.

And if that does end up being the case,
Mark Feinsand
believes that the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays, and Atlanta Braves would all make sense as trade partners:

“Like the Rays, the Brewers have a history of dealing players as they get closer to free agency (see Josh Hader, Corbin Burnes and Devin Williams), though trading Peralta would be a bold move given that Milwaukee sits only 1 1/2 games out of a Wild Card spot.

“Still, with an $8 million salary in 2025 and an $8 million club option for 2026, Peralta would surely draw interest from teams looking for controllable pitching, which is always a popular target around the Trade Deadline.”

Potential fits:

Blue Jays, Braves, Orioles, Yankees

As Brewers fans may recall, though, the clubhouse did not respond well to the Hader trade. And while the Brewers were eventually able to get William Contreras as a result of the deal (by sending Esteury Ruiz out in the massive three-team trade), many believe the trade was the reason Milwaukee missed the playoffs that year.

Simply put, if the Brewers are within striking distance of a playoff spot by the time the deadline rolls around, Peralta will assuredly be staying put.

The offseason, though, could present fans with a different story entirely.
