MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) -The Midland Municipal Employee Scholarship Organization hosted its annual Freedom Run event at Memorial Stadium.
People were able to come out here to get a good exercise in the Freedom Run, and this is for a good cause.
People were able to help raise money to give out scholarships for the Midland municipal employees for their kids to prepare for college.
People laced up their running shoes to run the 5K and the 10K run.
Awards were given out to first-place winners, and also to the people and pets who showed up with the most patriotic spirit.
“It was an easy run considering that I beat my family members, but the weather was very hot,” said Ryan Cadena.
“It was tough, but you’ve got to push through it. It was good,” said Lilianna Gonzalez.
But this was not an event to promote fitness. This is to help the city of Midland’s municipal employees.
The Freedom Run is to raise money for the Midland Municipal Employees Scholarship Fund.
“Scholarships do not roll around, so being able to contribute to the community is very important,” said Israel Cadena.
This money will help the kids of the employees so they can go to college.
“Any help that you can give a student to go to college or university in this day and age, as expensive as it is. I think it is a blessing, and we do our best to help where we can,” said Chase Cochran, Board Member, Midland Municipal Scholarship Fund.
The Freedom Run is the biggest scholarship event of the year for the Midland Municipal Employee Scholarship Committee.
“We want to do our best to raise the maximum amount of money so that we can offer the maximum amount of help to these students. So, this year we put in a lot of effort into promotion and getting the word out about not only our non-profit but also this event,” said Chase Cochran.
