Michigan Football: Wolverines Targeting Elite 2026 Class

Encouraged by a series of last-minute reversals,MichiganThe 2025 recruiting class transformed from good to top-tier within a few months last fall.

None were more significant than illegal hunting of the top overall prospectBryce Underwoodaway from LSU, but the Wolverines secured seven of their top eight recruits after November 1. Could a similar situation happen this year? As we approach the end of July, U-M has 22 commitments and is ranked No. 10 nationally, according to theCompetitors Industry Team Hiring Ratings.

But similar to last year around this time, several of their top prospects remain available as a critical period approaches in the recruiting process. What they have already secured is a solid base, with many commitments coming in over the past few weeks.

Out of the 22 commitments, 13 are top-tier prospects with a few more close to reaching that fourth star. QuarterbackBrady Smigiel, once committed to Florida State, is now on board and provides the Wolverines with a key player to build around.

The summer has been particularly favorable for them, as they secured a five-star edge rusher.Carter Meadows, four-star safety Andre Clarke, four-star wide receiver Travis Johnson and four-star pass-rusher Julian Walkerwithin a 10-day period at the close of June and start of July. And this followed shortly after securing a four-star defensive linemanTitan Davis and massive offensive tackle Malakai Lee, both of whom the Wolverines had to surpass numerous other prestigious programs.

Last week, they acquired another important player by trading for a four-star safety.Jordan Deck away from Baylor.

Michigan’s class has rapidly filled, with 12 commitments in just the month of June and four additional ones in July. They’ve accomplished this without securing a single player from their own state, instead selecting some of the top talents from Washington D.C., California, Missouri, Hawaii, Montana, Illinois, Virginia, and other areas.
