Meghan Markle Apparent Ban by Anna Wintour Tied to ‘Beyoncé-Level’ Requests

Meghan Markle
It was claimed that she lost a prominent feature in British Vogue after having disagreements with the editorial team regarding creative direction. Sources suggest that Anna Wintour decided to cancel the article, resulting in the Duchess of Sussex being barred from appearing on future covers.

As stated in a report by The
Daily Mail
Markle’s team apparently tried to “ micromanage” the editorial procedure for an article published in 2022 about her participation in the One Young World Summit held in Manchester. It is alleged that she sought complete oversight over multiple aspects of the publication, such as choosing the author, photographer, making the final edits, selecting photographs, and deciding on the headlines.

A person close to the situation asserted that Markle provided extensive details
demands
were seen as too much by the magazine’s editorial leaders.

“The extent of her attention to detail and control over the media is nearly at Beyoncé’s level… though she isn’t Beyoncé herself,” the source shared with the publication.

The informant stated that Wintour, who has been the powerful editor-in-chief at Vogue since 1988, immediately responded once she became aware of the circumstances.

“Anna got wind of it and promptly blacklisted herself, stating, ‘No more of this,’” the informant mentioned. “As a result, she missed out on both the cover and presumably the feature story as well.”

Friendship Reportedly Fractured

The repercussions apparently went further than just Wintour’s choice, leading to tensions reportedly developing between Markle and Edward Enninful, who at the time was the editor-in-chief of British Vogue.

“Edward likely concurred with Anna that they didn’t have the authority to decide who appears on the cover. That’s unequivocally up to the editor,” the source stated.

It was reported that Markle wanted the story prominently featured on the front cover, despite Enninful having already assigned that edition to top model Linda Evangelista. At the same time, Wintour supposedly selected Serena Williams—who is a close friend of Markle—for the US Vogue cover.

Previous reports suggested that Markle hoped to make Vogue history by appearing on the
UK
and
US
Editions released at the same time, a accomplishment previously reached solely by Adele back in November 2021.

Wintour, famous for her meticulousness and strict oversight of editorials, allegedly proposed styling Adele for the Grammy Awards after featuring her twice on the cover.

Markle and Enninful, who were previously on good terms, are now reported to have stopped communicating with each other.
