MasterChef Fans Heartbroken Over Major Series Twist: ‘It Makes Me Sad’

MasterChef
fans have had
quite a bit to discuss regarding how the series has evolved throughout the years
, and unfortunately not for the better. One aspect that
audiences appear to concur with
It seems that the show has reduced some of the more food-focused segments in favor of adding “unnecessary drama.”

This concern is growing among reality TV watchers, as channels keep increasing their efforts to maintain audience interest. Viewers who enjoy programs similar to these series have begun to raise this issue.
Farmer Wants A Wife
have shared similar grievances
is stating that the series has shifted away from emphasizing pure romance narratives towards generating more drama and scandal.

Up until recently, MasterChef was mostly left out of these discussions because it appeared that the cooking show had remained relatively untouched by this type of narrative. However, now its viewers are beginning to voice their opinions in a comparable manner.

Taking to
Reddit
,
One viewer expressed their frustrations.
, saying, “I kind of wish they’d focus a little bit on the culinary concepts during the contestants’ interviews. My favourite moments from S17 have been Darrsh explaining the science behind his beef fat cake, Samira talking about the construction of her salmon kibbeh, and Callum talking about his flavour profiles in the Ixta mystery box.

“In the same episode, Laura made a pasta using masa harina instead of the usual 00 wheat flour,” they added. “Masa is gluten-free and made from corn, so it’s quite tricky to get the chewy/springy texture of pasta out of it. Feels like such a lost opportunity because people are dismissing it as ‘yet another pasta dish’ when it’s actually a stuffed pasta made with masa, which is quite technically complex to execute (first the masa and then the stuffing)!

“Would like if they focused less on people freaking out about the time crunch during their interviews. We know they don’t have a lot of time! Let them be frazzled for two sentences an episode and give us 10 sentences of cooking knowledge! The balance is way more towards creating needless drama at the moment.”

Many others thought the same, with one saying, “I agree with you! I want to know more about the cooking and less about the time panic.”

Another
MasterChef
fan complained about the fact that not everyone gets the same screen time and that the show only cares about the drama, rather than the cooking.

They wrote, “I do not remember even a single [episode] where all of [the contestants] had at least a few seconds of screen time. I get that some contestants would have a lot going on, which would make things exciting to watch, but all of them deserve a little of the screen time.

In certain episodes, several individuals aren’t even depicted serving their dishes to the judges, let alone preparing them. This leaves me somewhat saddened as I remain unaware of what those participants have whipped up for the day.

Another person chimed in, saying, “It’s amusing how Samira had just one confessional spot and barely any airtime even though she was in the bottom three. Then, surprisingly, after making it into the top five dishes, she hardly received any confessionals again—though my memory could be off—and very little camera presence overall. It makes you wonder whether she lacked interest or if the show’s creators simply weren’t fond of her.”

A viewer noted that contestants with surprisingly little camera time early on in the competition often end up performing exceptionally well later on.

Someone summarized it by stating, “Fundamentally,
MasterChef Australia
It is a reality TV show where the main focus for the producers is attracting a large audience. This boosts their advertising income and opens up more chances for product placements.

“They often create or instigate drama and conflicts, focusing on the contestants’ reactions and how effectively they can manipulate them to engage viewers. As a result, the cooking aspect of
MasterChef
is secondary to these entertainment factors. Participants who don’t shine on camera tend to be overlooked, whereas those who are more engaging get highlighted more often. In the end, the culinary component takes a less prominent role.
