Nollywood
actress
Mary Njoku has spoken about pressure and how harmful it can be to people.
Njoku expressses her thoughts in an
Instagram
post where she explained that sometimes, words of encouragement can be harmful to the receiver.
She explained that while the words may be coming from a place of love, it can lead to feelings of guilt and failure.
“Sometimes telling someone they can do what they deeply believe they can’t isn’t encouragement, it is pressure. It can feel like guilt, like failure. It can even feel like depression,” Njoku wrote.
She also noted how important self assessment is, stating that sometimes, someone’s presence is enough encouragement.
“So my dear, if you say you can, then you can. If you say you can’t, then you can’t, and that’s okay. Sometimes, the best advice is no advice at all,” she said.
