Marshall and Hambly Shine in Futures League Home Run Derby for Worcester Bravehearts

A Memorable Experience for Jackson Marshall in the Futures League Home Run Derby

Jackson Marshall, a towering presence on the field, made his mark at the Futures League Home Run Derby held in Worcester. Despite being eliminated in the semifinals on July 21, the experience was nothing short of a grand slam for the Bravehearts’ standout slugger.

Marshall shared his excitement about the event, noting that it was a unique opportunity to compete against someone he will soon play with at the University of Connecticut. He mentioned Bryce Detwiler, one of the finalists, as a future teammate. “It was awesome to experience that and play against everyone today,” he said.

Detwiler, who ultimately won the final round by hitting five home runs, faced off against Griffin Enis from Westfield, who set the pace with 27 home runs over three rounds. Marshall’s performance, while not leading in the derby, showcased his power and potential as a player.

The All-Star Game and Future Prospects

Marshall, along with 14 of his Braveheart teammates, will participate in the All-Star Game scheduled for July 22 at Polar Park. The game will be broadcast live on NESN+ with replays shown on NESN. For Marshall, this is an exciting milestone in his career. “I’m really excited to be out there,” he said, adding that he looks forward to the event and the opportunity to represent his team.

Marshall, who has been with the Bravehearts for two consecutive summers, hails from Hooksett, New Hampshire. As a senior at Pinkerton Academy in 2024, he earned first-team all-state honors in both basketball and baseball. His athletic background includes a memorable moment when he finally beat his father in a one-on-one basketball game. Dan Marshall, who played as a three-year captain at Assumption, graduated in 1996.

Despite his basketball achievements, Marshall chose to focus on baseball, eventually joining Southern New Hampshire University. This summer, he has continued to shine, leading the Futures League in several key statistics, including RBIs, doubles, and hit-by-pitches. His performance has not gone unnoticed by his manager, Luke Beckstein, who praised his competitive spirit and approach at the plate.

Team Success and New Additions

The Bravehearts are currently in first place in the Futures League with a record of 34-12, and they are expected to return to the playoffs after a one-year absence. Marshall emphasized the strong team dynamics and the collective effort to finish the season strong. “It’s a great group of guys,” he said, highlighting the positive environment within the team.

In addition to Marshall, another Braveheart, Cole Hambly, made an appearance in the Home Run Derby. Hambly, a recent graduate of Worcester Academy, joined the team on July 15. He took part in the Derby, hitting four home runs in the opening round, narrowly missing the chance to advance to the next stage.

Hambly, who will continue his baseball career at Siena, was a late replacement for the derby due to other players opting out or getting injured. His quick transition into the event was smooth, and he embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm. “Hitting home runs is my thing, so might as well just do the Derby,” he said.

Positive Contributions and Future Outlook

Hambly has already made an impact on the team, batting .429 in five games. Manager Luke Beckstein praised his positive attitude and ability to step up in challenging situations. “He’s been nothing but positivity since joining the team,” Beckstein noted, expressing confidence in Hambly’s role in the offense moving forward.

As the Bravehearts continue their season, the contributions of both Marshall and Hambly highlight the strength and depth of the team. Their performances in the Home Run Derby and on the field reflect the dedication and talent that define the Bravehearts. With a strong lineup and a clear goal of making it to the playoffs, the team is poised for a successful summer.
