Health Department offers free HIV testing

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The
Marion County Public Health Department
(MCPHD) is offering free HIV testing as part of
National HIV Testing Day
.

MCPHD offered testing at two Walgreens locations in Marion County. MCPHD estimates more than 8,000 people are living with HIV in Marion County.

MCPHD officials said testing events can be an important step in reducing the spread of HIV in our community.

“It’s very important that we can bring the community together, so people can know their status,” said Byron Reynolds, program manager for Substances Outreach Services at MCPHD. “The numbers are going up in African-American women. So, we want to try to reach that population, but it’s also going up in other populations. We want to just try and reach the community and do the best we can to get out here, and let people know what their status is.”

MCPHD officials said all tests are confidential and the HIV test results come back within minutes.
