Manipur Police Arrest 3 PREPAK Cadres in Imphal West; Seize Arms, Explosives Across State

Arrests of Active Cadres in Manipur Highlight Ongoing Security Operations

Manipur Police have made significant arrests in the state, targeting members of banned outfits. On Tuesday, three active cadres of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) were arrested from their respective residences in the Imphal West District. The police shared details on social media, stating that Wangkhem Amarjit Meitei, also known as Tang or Lamyanba, was taken into custody. He is 31 years old and resides in Chingmeirong Maning Leikai under the Lamphel Police Station jurisdiction.

Following his arrest, two more individuals were detained based on information provided by him. Laishram Pangamba Meitei, known as Mexico, was arrested from Haorang Keirel Makha Leikai in the Lamshang Police Station area. He is 31 years old. Another individual, Khangenbam Ricky Meitei, alias Yaiphaba, was also taken into custody. He is 27 years old and lives in Lamshang Taothong Ayungba Mamang Leikai, also under the Lamshang Police Station.

During the searches, the police seized two mobile phones and three wallets from the arrested individuals, indicating a possible link to illegal activities.

Enhanced Security Measures Across Manipur

In the past 24 hours, the overall law-and-order situation in Manipur has remained stable. Security forces have been conducting search operations and maintaining control over vulnerable areas across the state. These efforts have led to the arrest of several suspected militants.

On Monday, security forces apprehended four active members of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) from the Koirengei Chingol Leikai area and three cadres of the Kuki National Army (KCP) near the Indo-Myanmar border. These operations are part of a broader strategy to neutralize threats and maintain peace in the region.

Recovery of Arms and Ammunition

In two separate operations conducted in the general areas of Tingkai Khullen village in Kangpokpi district and Maohing and Changoubung villages in the same district, security forces recovered a large quantity of weapons and ammunition. The items recovered include various types of rifles, pistols, and other military-grade equipment.

The list of recovered arms includes an INSAS rifle with a magazine, a 303 rifle, a T/Sight with a magazine, a locally made lathode, a .32 pistol with a magazine, four local-made bolt-action rifles, two canon pumpis, an M16 rifle, a MA1 assault rifle, a sniper rifle, and several other firearms. Additionally, the security forces recovered 50 .303 ammunition rounds, two lathode shells, ten 12 mm rounds, and multiple other types of ammunition.

Other items seized include four hand grenades, two Baofeng wireless sets, two BP plates, two handheld radio sets, and several grenade components such as arming rings and detonators. The recovery of these items underscores the scale of the threat posed by militant groups in the region.

Combating Extortion and Criminal Activities

Intelligence-based combing operations and cordon and search operations have been intensified to target those involved in extortion and other criminal activities. These operations have resulted in the arrest of four active UPPK cadres from the Koirengei Chingol Leikai area in the Imphal East district.

The arrested individuals include Nishan Ngangbam alias Tamngakpa, Laishangbam Roshan Singh alias Yaibi, Chungkham Kiran Meitei alias Lepsinba, and Chandam Ratan Meitei alias Lion. They were identified based on their residences and alleged involvement in unlawful activities.

These ongoing operations highlight the commitment of security forces to ensuring public safety and restoring normalcy in Manipur. The continued efforts to dismantle militant networks are crucial in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
