Macao Wonder Roadshow: Back at Siam Paragon

Macao Wonder Roadshow: Back at Siam Paragon

Bangkok is once again embracing the spirit of Macao as the ‘Macao Wonder’ roadshow returns from June 6-8, 2025, hosted by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO). More than just a travel fair, this immersive three-day event showcases the dynamic fusion of East and West that defines Macao-through exhibitions, performances, interactive activities, and exclusive travel promotions tailored for Thai travellers.

Held at Fashion Hall, 1st floor, in Siam Paragon, the roadshow underlines MGTO’s commitment to strengthening Thailand-Macao relations, both in tourism and business. Led by Mr Cheng Wai Tong, Deputy Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the event features representatives from six of Macao’s leading integrated resorts, alongside major airlines and tour operators including Air Macau, AirAsia, and Thai Lion Air.

‘We want Thai travellers to see Macao not just as a destination, but as a vivid experience that speaks to all five senses,’ said Mr Cheng Wai Tong, Deputy Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).

‘This year, we’ve designed the roadshow to reflect our Tourism+ strategy-where culture, food, creativity, and world-class events converge to form a rich and rewarding journey.’

From Growth to Greater Goals

‘To attract more visitors, we need to find the right balance between local guests and international tourists. Diversifying our tourism portfolio is essential-currently, over 70% of visitors to Macao come from Mainland China, but we aim to expand our reach and welcome more travellers from around the world,’ said Mr Cheng Wai Tong.

Mr Cheng Wai Tong said that, ‘Thai tourists appreciate meaningful travel-whether it’s exploring spiritual sites, indulging in gourmet food, or soaking in cultural stories and storytelling -all of which are deeply embedded in the Macao experience. The success of last year’s event has been measurable. In 2024, we welcomed over 134,000 visitors from Thailand, marking a 31.8% increase compared to 2023. Even more notably, the average spending per Thai tourist has risen significantly, from MOP 1,120 in 2019 to MOP 2,598 in 2024-an increase of over 140% from pre-COVID levels. These strong figures reaffirm the close tourism ties between Macao and Thailand. With up to 54 direct flights weekly between Bangkok and Macao, Thailand has consistently been one of our top ten markets.’

‘We expect to see over 150,000 Thai travellers in 2025, and collaboration across the tourism industry will be crucial in achieving this,’ Mr Cheng Wai Tong stated.

The ‘Tourism+’ Strategy in Action

At the heart of the roadshow is MGTO’s signature ‘Tourism+’ strategy-an innovative model that integrates tourism with five major sectors:

Gastronomy – From street food stalls to Michelin-starred restaurants

MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) – Positioning Macao as a regional business hub

World-Class Events – International festivals and cultural showcases

Sports – Featuring events such as the Macao Grand Prix

Culture and Creativity – Bridging East and West through art, architecture, and storytelling

Mr Cheng Wai Tong explained that ‘Beyond tourism, we are promoting the ‘Tourism+’ strategy, which has become the cornerstone of our destination marketing. This approach connects tourism with key sectors like gastronomy, MICE, international events, sports, and creative culture. In particular, it aligns closely with Thai travellers’ interests-whether it’s spiritual tourism at Macao’s UNESCO-listed temples, food tourism exploring everything from street eats to Michelin-starred dining, or entertainment and cultural travel with vibrant performances and rich heritage experiences.’

“Tourism can plus with any elements such as sports, MICE, culture and more. Through our Tourism+ Strategy, Macao continues to integrate tourism with sports, MICE, culture, and other elements to create a dynamic visitor experience. In 2025, we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘The Historic Centre of Macao’ being inscribed on the World Heritage List, a testament to our unique blend of Eastern and Western influences cultivated over 400 years,’ Mr Cheng Wai Tong amplified.

Mr Cheng Wai Tong added that ‘The ‘Macao Wonder’ roadshow in Bangkok was designed with Thai tastes in mind, blending East and West through a multi-sensory experience that showcases the unique identity of Macao-from its lights and flavours to its stories and traditions. We’re also deepening partnerships with Thai airlines and tour operators to ensure long-term, sustainable tourism cooperation between our two destinations.’

A Star-Studded Affair

The opening day dazzled with appearances by Thai celebrity Engfa Waraha, who shared her favourite moments from a recent trip to Macao. Over the weekend, performances by pop group PiXXie and rising actor Perth-Tanapon Sukumpantanasan kept the energy high and the audience engaged.

Adding to the excitement are ‘Wonder Touch’ interactive zones, where visitors can try their luck at Grand Prix-themed games, draw fortunes with the Macao Chi Chi Stick, attend cobblestone craft workshops, and sample Macao-inspired dishes.

Travel Deals You Can’t Miss

To entice immediate travel, the event features irresistible promotions:

Forging Long-Term Partnerships

Beyond the excitement of travel, MGTO is laying the groundwork for deeper collaboration. On June 5, 2025, MGTO will host the ‘Macao Tourism+ MICE Product Updates Seminar and Travel Mart’, bringing together Thai and Macanese travel professionals to foster new business opportunities and promote sustainable tourism development.

‘Partnerships are crucial,’ Mr Cheng Wai Tong emphasised.

‘We’re not just promoting travel. We’re co-creating future experiences-through stronger airline connectivity, business forums, and shared cultural projects that benefit both sides.’

Why Macao, Why Now?

Mr Cheng Wai Tong added that ‘Macao offers a vibrant mix of experiences, from world-class shopping and accommodations to diverse food and beverage options, sightseeing, concerts-including K-Pop performances-and major MICE events. Our tourism markets span Greater China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, the Northeastern markets like Japan and Korea, Southeast Asia-including Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia-and long-haul visitors from the US and Europe.”

He further said that ‘Macao is also a prime gateway for travellers exploring the Greater Bay Area in China, and with our visa exemptions for Thai visitors, accessibility is better than ever. This year, Macao Wonder will bring impactful promotions, collaborating with major airlines such as Air Macau, AirAsia, and Thai Lion Air, as well as key players in the entertainment industry. Visitors can enjoy exciting events, including the international fireworks festival in September and many more attractions.’

‘Macao’s gastronomy is truly special-not only do we offer incredible local street food, but under the UNESCO program, we also showcase Michelin-starred restaurants and integrated resorts featuring a wide variety of dining, shopping, and performances. As I always say, if you visit Macao, you’ll experience a world of flavors in one destination,’ said Mr Cheng Wai Tong.

With its unique blend of Chinese and Portuguese heritage, world-class entertainment, spiritual landmarks, and culinary richness, Macao stands as one of Asia’s most vibrant travel destinations. And for Thai travellers seeking more than just sightseeing-a journey with depth, discovery, and delight-Macao Wonder is the perfect invitation.
