A Rapid Decision: Lydia and Zac’s Unconventional Path to Marriage
Lydia Plath and Zac Wyse’s relationship has taken an unexpected turn, with the couple deciding to get married shortly after meeting. This decision was highlighted in the season 7 premiere of Welcome to Plathville, where their families were introduced to the news.
Barry Plath, Lydia’s father, shared his thoughts on the couple’s quick decision during the show. “This is a huge decision — till death do we part,” he said, acknowledging the gravity of marriage. When Zac proposed, he had already planned for the wedding to take place just three months later. Barry was initially taken aback by the speed of the plan, but he ultimately gave his blessing.
Zac explained that the timeline was influenced by Lydia’s plans to go on a mission trip to Germany. “I wanted to go, and I brought it up to her, and she was like, ‘Yeah, you’re going.’” The idea of being married before the trip became a key factor in their decision. “As we asked that question, everything kind of came together to happen before we went to Germany.”

Barry admitted that the accelerated timeline was “more than a whirlwind.” However, he related to the couple’s situation, as he and Lydia’s mother, Kim Plath, had also gotten engaged after just over three months together. “I completely can empathize with their timeline,” he said.
When Zac told Lydia that Barry had approved, she expressed relief. “It gives me a ton of peace knowing that my dad has peace as well,” she said. Barry, in turn, told her, “I’m very proud of you. I’m just really excited. My little girl, she’s all grown up.”
However, not everyone in the family was as enthusiastic. Lydia’s older brother, Ethan Plath, voiced his concerns. “It doesn’t make sense,” he said in a confessional. While he acknowledged that Zac made Lydia happy, he found the timeline confusing. He even joked about the possibility of a “shotgun wedding.” After Lydia looked up the term online, she clarified that there was no pregnancy or pressure involved.
The couple met at a church in Colorado, where they were both invited to a Young Adults event. They ended up sitting next to each other and quickly formed a connection. “I asked you out,” Zac recalled, adding, “So we went hiking, and then went hiking again.” Their first date included a hike above 13,000 feet, which Zac jokingly referred to as the start of their journey.
Their wedding took place in February at the Plath family farm in Georgia, where they shared their first kiss. The ceremony was described as a celebration of their love, inspired by the Bible verse Ephesians 5:25. “We envisioned a time to celebrate our union with our close communities coming together,” Zac said. Both emphasized the importance of keeping the focus on their faith and their loved ones rather than on details that would fade over time.
The couple’s story continues to capture attention, especially as Welcome to Plathville airs on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC. Their journey serves as a reminder of how love can develop quickly and the importance of family support in making life-changing decisions.
