Celebrating Excellence: LUMS Commemorates Graduating Class of 2025
The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) recently celebrated the remarkable achievements of its graduating Class of 2025 through a series of unforgettable ceremonies held over two days. The event marked a significant milestone for more than 1,400 graduates who received their degrees across the university’s five schools. These ceremonies honored the dedication and hard work of both undergraduate and graduate students, as they were joined by family members, friends, and faculty to commemorate this important moment in their lives.
The convocation was attended by notable figures from the university’s leadership, including Pro Chancellor Mr. Abdul Razak Dawood, Vice Chancellor Dr. Ali Cheema, members of the Board of Trustees, Deans, and esteemed faculty members. Together, they recognized the academic accomplishments of the graduates and acknowledged their perseverance and commitment throughout their studies.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Dr. Ali Cheema extended his congratulations to the graduating class and welcomed them into the global LUMS alumni community. He shared words of encouragement as the graduates prepared to take on new challenges in their personal and professional lives. “If this year has taught us anything, it is that we must build the capacity to live with uncertainty and grow stronger through it,” he said. “I just want to say to you: let the winds of uncertainty fuel your fire, not extinguish your spirit.”
Honoring Academic Excellence
The valedictorians of the Class of 2025, Aizaz Arif and Jovera Shakeel, reflected on their transformative experiences at LUMS. They shared key moments that shaped their academic and personal growth during their time at the university. Speaking on behalf of the class, they expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to learn alongside some of Pakistan’s brightest minds and acknowledged the profound impact of a LUMS education on their lives.
This year’s convocation featured keynote speeches from two distinguished guests: internationally acclaimed author Ms. Kamila Shamsie and Chairman of Systems Limited, Mr. Aezaz Hussain. Ms. Shamsie encouraged graduates to pursue their passions, even when the path is difficult. She shared a personal story about her near-drowning experience to emphasize the importance of recognizing danger early and seeking help. She also spoke about the struggles women face, the value of independence, and the need for self-belief, highlighting the practical aspects of life over mere inspiration.
Mr. Hussain urged the graduates to think creatively and lead with integrity. He offered valuable advice, stating, “Follow your passion, find what energizes you, what ignites your mind, speaks to your soul — and pursue it. Because when you do that, you will never run out of motivation. You will enjoy the journey, and that makes all the difference.”
A Celebration of Achievement
The ceremonies provided a platform for graduates to reflect on their journeys and celebrate their successes. The event was not only a recognition of academic excellence but also a celebration of the resilience, determination, and growth that each student demonstrated throughout their time at LUMS.
As the graduates prepare to step into the next chapter of their lives, the support and guidance from the university community will continue to play a vital role in their future endeavors. The convocation served as a powerful reminder of the values instilled at LUMS — innovation, integrity, and a commitment to excellence.
With the Class of 2025 now officially part of the LUMS alumni network, the university looks forward to witnessing the impact these graduates will make in their respective fields and beyond. Their journey is just beginning, and the opportunities ahead are limitless.
