Liberia has won the bid to host the ECOWAS Youth and Sports Development Centre (EYSDC), a major regional institution under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The decision, announced by the ECOWAS Commission, follows a competitive selection process initiated after recent institutional relocations within the regional bloc.
A key figure in the Liberian legislature, Representative Anthony Williams of Maryland County District 2 and ranking member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, has praised Minister of Foreign Affairs Sara Beysolow Nyanti for her “exceptional strategic leadership” in securing the hosting rights for Liberia.
“This is a proud and transformative milestone for our nation. The successful hosting bid for the ECOWAS Youth and Sports Development Centre is not just a diplomatic win; it is a win for every Liberian youth, athlete, and aspiring leader across the country,” Rep. Williams told

Rep. Williams noted that Liberia’s success in winning the bid underscores growing regional confidence in the country’s leadership and governance capacity. Of the 12 countries eligible to host ECOWAS institutions, Côte d’Ivoire was selected to host the West African Health Organization (WAHO), Guinea the Water Resources Coordination Centre (WRCC), and Guinea-Bissau the Regional Animal Health Centre (RAHC), while Liberia secured the EYSDC.
Minister Nyanti, in a statement following the announcement, credited President Joseph Boakai for playing a key role in the successful bid. She described the President as the “chief architect of Liberia’s foreign policy,” and thanked him for his direct engagement with the ECOWAS vetting team that visited Liberia.
She also recognized the efforts of Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration, Dr. Ibrahim Nyei, and his team for leading Liberia’s technical and strategic coordination during the bidding process.
Special appreciation was extended to Minister of Youth and Sports, Cllr. Cole Bangalu, for ensuring that Liberia’s proposal met all the technical requirements. Economic Advisor to the President, Mr. Morley Kamara, was also commended for aligning the bid with Liberia’s broader economic diplomacy agenda.
The General Services Agency (GSA) was acknowledged for its coordination of the logistical and infrastructural components of the bid, and Senator Edwin Snowe was recognized for advocating Liberia’s interest in hosting a regional institution.
Liberia had expressed interest in hosting three of four ECOWAS institutions vacated by member states that exited the bloc, including WAHO, EYSDC, and WRCC. The successful bid to host the EYSDC enhances Liberia’s position within ECOWAS and promises long-term benefits in youth development, education, job creation, sports diplomacy, and regional visibility.
Kings and Queens Int’l School Clinches Double Victory at National Press Club Exhibition
Paynesville- In a powerful display of consistency and rising talent, Kings and Queens International School has once again dominated the National Press Club Exhibition, winning both the senior and elementary categories at the 7th edition of the annual event hosted by Youth Media Action.
Held under the theme “Strengthening High School Press Clubs for Professional Journalism,” this year’s exhibition brought together dozens of student journalists from schools across Liberia. As has been tradition, participating schools arrived with scripts and presentations prepared entirely at their campuses in advance, reflecting weeks of collaboration within their press clubs.
This year’s win cements Kings and Queens’ growing legacy at the exhibition. The school had already made history in the 5th edition, winning the elementary category for a second consecutive time and clinching the senior division for the first time. With this year’s results, the school has now achieved back-to-back victories in both divisions, further establishing itself as a national leader in campus journalism.
Throughout the event, student presentations reflected strong storytelling, structure, and confidence. Judges evaluated entries based on relevance, clarity, creativity, and delivery. Kings and Queens stood out not only for their composure but for their attention to detail and alignment with journalistic standards.
The atmosphere during the exhibition was filled with energy and pride. School teams cheered on their peers, and the crowd responded warmly to every standout presentation. The event has become a defining moment in Liberia’s youth media calendar, nurturing the skills and confidence of young communicators.
As trophies were presented and cameras flashed, Kings and Queens International School once again walked away with more than just trophies –it left a message of consistency, hard work, and the power of student journalism to shape future media leaders.
