Laura Mullett’s Shape-Perfect Style Tips and the Sizing Mistake to Avoid

Laura Mullett’s Shape-Perfect Style Tips and the Sizing Mistake to Avoid

Insights from a Fashion Expert: Laura Mullett

Fashion is more than just clothing; it’s an expression of identity, personality, and confidence. For those looking to elevate their style, gaining insight from industry professionals can be invaluable. Celebrity stylist and fashion journalist Laura Mullett has made a name for herself through her work with celebrities, fashion segments on RTÉ’s Today show, and her deep understanding of the ever-changing world of fashion. In this exclusive conversation, she shares her thoughts on trends, personal style, and the importance of self-expression.

A Love for Vintage and Affordable Styles

Laura Mullett has a unique approach to shopping, often finding treasures in unexpected places. She frequently visits charity shops like Oxfam, Vision Ireland, and St Vincent’s, where she enjoys the thrill of the hunt. “Pottering around in charity shops is one of my favorite pastimes,” she says. “I also love vintage stores, especially Jenny Vander, and I pick up cute seasonal staples from Very Ireland. They’re perfect for dopamine dressing.”

In addition to her thrifting habits, she also enjoys shopping at TK Maxx for candles, which she describes as “free aromatherapy.” When it comes to accessories, ChloBo Jewellery is a go-to for her. “I’m always on the lookout for something unique,” she adds.

The Power of Playful Style

While Laura embraces the idea of being playful with her fashion choices, she also acknowledges that some of her early style experiments were less than successful. “As a child, I poured Lucozade down my Communion dress because I thought it would look better pink,” she recalls with a laugh. “Nowadays, I like to experiment with bright, funky, and positive outfits. Sometimes I might look like a walking highlighter, but I think being playful in your sense of style is what makes fashion fun.”

She believes that the early 2000s trend revival is a great opportunity for people to reinterpret styles in their own way. “You don’t have to spend a lot to look good,” she explains. “Circular fashion, repurposing, and upcycling have never been more stylish.”

Style Inspirations and Favorite Pieces

When it comes to style icons, Laura admires Sydney Sweeney, who she describes as a “bombshell” who often wears Miu Miu. She also has a soft spot for Schiaparelli, a design house she finds fascinating. “Their pieces are pure art,” she says.

Her wardrobe staple is a black cashmere blend thin jumper from Intimissimi. “It’s the perfect top for day to night. It’s soft, flattering, and comfortable,” she says.

Essential Items and Personal Care

Laura’s handbag essentials include her Kindle, headphones, and a coffee cup flask. She also carries skincare products such as Ella & Jo SPF, La Roche Posay Cicaplast, Biofresh Vitamin C, Skin Formulas peptide lip treatment, and face mist. “Dr. Jart+ Cicapair is amazing for redness, and Aesop mini deodorant is pricey but natural and lasts a long time.”

The most expensive item in her wardrobe is her wedding shoes—Jimmy Choo, which she cherishes. “I’ve worn them to events and red carpets, and ironically, I found a pair of black patent Jimmy Choo peep toes in my local charity shop for €30. That kind of balances the whole wedding shoes investment!”

Travel and Fashion Experiences

Laura has had the opportunity to explore some of the most stylish cities in the world. She worked on fashion buying for a brand in Florence and Milan, where she was inspired by the local fashion scene. However, when it comes to street style, Paris is her favorite. “The locals dress so chic and understated, while the tourists bring a more eclectic vibe,” she says.
