Laredo Animal Care Services Hosts Low-Cost Vaccine and Microchip Drive-Thru Event
Laredo Animal Care Services recently held its second Low-Cost Vaccine and Microchip Drive-Thru Clinic on July 12 at its facility located at 5202 Maher Avenue. This event was a significant step in promoting animal welfare and public health by providing essential preventive care to local pets. The clinic demonstrated the organization’s ongoing dedication to ensuring that all pets in the community have access to necessary medical services.
The event offered a comprehensive package of services for just $30. Pet owners could choose from a range of vaccinations, including Rabies, DAPP, and Bordetella for dogs, as well as FVRCP and Rabies for cats. Additionally, all pets received a microchip with registration. The clinic quickly filled up once preregistration opened, with appointments available for both dogs and cats. This high demand highlighted the importance of such services within the community.
The drive-thru format made the experience convenient and stress-free for both pets and their owners. This approach allowed residents to easily access affordable, preventive care without the need for long wait times or complicated procedures. The streamlined process ensured that pets could receive their vaccinations and microchips efficiently.
During the event, a total of 132 dogs and 56 cats were vaccinated and microchipped. These actions are essential for preventing the spread of diseases, complying with Texas rabies laws, and increasing the chances of reuniting lost pets with their families. Vaccinations not only protect individual animals but also contribute to the overall health of the pet population in the area.
In addition to the vaccine clinic, Laredo Animal Care Services had an active week leading up to the event. The team worked tirelessly to sterilize over 200 dogs and cats. This effort was made possible through collaboration between LACS staff, the shelter veterinarian, and a visiting surgery team. Among these sterilizations, 130 were part of LACS’s Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program, which focuses on community cats.
The TNR program is an effective strategy for managing stray cat populations. It involves sterilizing, vaccinating, ear-tipping, and returning stray cats to their neighborhoods. This method helps prevent further breeding and gradually reduces the number of stray cats over time. Sterilizing adoptable shelter pets also plays a key role in helping them find permanent homes more quickly, whether through adoption or rescue programs.
Laredo Animal Care Services expressed deep gratitude to the community, its staff, Parks and Recreation staff, and volunteers for their support during this busy week. The organization emphasized its commitment to continuing these efforts and ensuring that all pet owners in Laredo have access to affordable care in the long term.
